Run Control and Monitor System for the CMS Experiment

The Data Acquisition (DAQ) of the CMS Experiment [1] is composed by O(10000) network objects spread in O(1000) nodes, most of them based on commodity PCs, connected to a very efficient Local Area Network. The DAQ complex (both hardware and software) must be controlled in order to synchronize all the objects to perform in the proper sequence the needed actions: configure the experiment, start, s...

Pilot run of the new DAQ of the COMPASS experiment

This contribution focuses on the deployment and first results of the new data acquisition system (DAQ) of the COMPASS experiment at CERN laboratory. The COMPASS experiment is a fixed target experiment with maximum rate of 1.5 GB/s. The DAQ utilizing FPGA-based event builder is designed to be able to readout data at maximum rate of the experiment. The DAQ is developed under name RCCARS (run cont...

Status of the CALICE DAQ system

A data acquisition (DAQ) system is described which will be used for the next generation of prototype calorimeters using particle flow algorithms for the International Linear Collider (ILC). The design is sufficiently generic and scalable such that it should have numerous applications either for ILC detectors or elsewhere within high energy physics in general. The DAQ system will be implemented ...

The CMS trigger system

This paper presents an overall description of the CMS trigger system which is composed by the Level-1 Trigger and the High-Level Trigger subsystems. Details on the algorithms and selection criteria at a luminosity of 2x10 33 cm-2 s-1 are provided. High efficiencies for benchmark physics channels are attainable with an inclusive selection that avoids detailed topological requirements on the event.

Control System Design of the CERN/CMS Tracker Thermal Screen

The Tracker is one of the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid experiment) detectors to be installed at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) accelerator, scheduled to start data taking in 2007. Since it will be operated at a temperature of –10°C, a thermally insulated environment has to be provided by means of a thermal screen. The control system design of the thermal screen has been accomplished via a formal...
